So here I am, slaving away in the comfort of a different home away from home, barely keeping myself going after a week of chronic lack of sleep. When I could have just gone home and done it from there, and still had access to the cookies and sour cream chips.

But I preferred to stay here.

Even though I know I have this place entirely to myself, the corollary of which is that there is no one else here with me. Kinda sad way to spend the Saturday afternoon, one might suppose. Sitting here and working, overlooking the green, green grass that, actually, isn't even grass. That very thought is as mad as the madness that is myself.

But then, I'm nothing if not mad. You knew that already...

It's pretty good and quiet here, actually. At least I could still feed off the Internet connection, which really helps in terms of research. And I've got good air-conditioning and a washroom just a walk away. Not to mention a really comfy chair to sit in.

It's going to be a temporary facility, I know. I'm not planning to use it all too often anyway. The only reason I'm doing it today is because I have something else to attend to in the evening, and what better way to ensure some discipline and get work done than to bring it out of the house?

Still, it's really great to just sit down here and type away. A little bit of peace and quiet never hurt anyone.

Of course, I could use having someone to chat with while I worked, to bounce ideas off of or simply smile at with all the silliness I could muster. But it's okay. No, really, it is.

Back to the keyboard.

Sometimes I don't know why I slave so hard.

But I suppose that's me.

Not that I mind it. I like it, actually, keeping myself occupied so much of the time with work.

Because it's what gives me purpose. Through this work I allow myself to do just what it is I am destined to do.

The angel's wings, they do grow...

But then you work six days a week.

Which leaves not all that many opportunities.

So I'm male and I have no use for most skincare products. But that doesn't stop me from watching commercials selling those products. Especially if they happen to star one Matsu Takako...

These particular commercials are slightly old, granted, but they're quite lovely.

And while I have no use for skincare products, especially of the whitening variety, you never know if a friend of mine might...

It might all look a little funny, of course, but then it's rather less funny in reality. Just, um, natural.

Never mind, most of what I'm saying now sounds like a bag of incoherent words anyway.

Once in a while, you need reminders that the world can be a really humour-filled place.

Try this piece of news from the BBC for instance:

Al-Qaeda calls on USA to convert to Islam

It's just not going to happen, and we know it. Quite apart from how funny the whole suggestion is painted out to be, there's the simple fact that this isn't exactly the kind of religious tolerance that the modern world would like to advocate. Okay, most of the modern world.

So let's say the Yankees convert to Islam. What's next?

Thank God I'm agnostic! (Yes, that's deliberate.)
