What doesn't kill you makes you come back. Sure, it has been a depressing week work-wise because of a whole wave of deadlines coming in and swamping everything in its path. Problems of all sorts abound, and you should not even try convincing me these problems are minor. They are not; no contest, no argument, no buts. People are falling behind projected progress charts, and that can only mean trouble ahead. It has therefore been nothing close to enjoyable, this past week.
But what doesn't kill you makes you come back, sometimes stronger. The trying tests that we had inadvertently (subconsciously?) subjected ourselves to have shown exactly that. Sometimes ducking is not necessarily the best answer. It is a stopgap of some sort, I would agree, but beyond that there need to be different measures. We have to be honest with ourselves and realize that ducking doesn't do very much to sort out the dilemma. And in a way, we have. That is cause for a little flutter of cheer, though not too much.
Coming to terms with ourselves is always a tough test. But it is a test worth going through. There is light at the end of a very long tunnel yet. The light may be black, white, or a rich technicolor blend of red, green and blue. But there is light, and it's there for us to see and reach. It's up to you and I whether we want to see it and reach it, in a manner of speaking. And no, this is not a one-way street like the famed back-alleys of Beijing.
Some things you don't have to actually see, in a visual sort of way.
But no, the surgery isn't finished yet. If anything it has just started. It is like the restoration process for old monuments or buildings - this is going to take very long before the days of old return and we get to see what it was like before. It is going to be a long and hard journey, and we would have to be a little patient in waiting to see the end result. But the end result should be satisfying. It should be a treat. And to see it and experience it - well, it will be an honour (for the subject, or for the audience, it is too early to tell; perhaps it will be an honour for both).
If what I have said confuses and confounds you, the reader, I am sorry, but there is nothing to regret in the decision to say all this and write this little piece.
The reconstruction has begun. Let the job be finished, with that touch of true panache.
